Proof of God’s Divinity

Posted by Ingrid on 3 June 2009

I know that title just sucked you right in didn’t it.  Well, there is a reason I used it.  The reason is that God’s divinity is not something found in the extraordinary, but rather the mundane events of day to day living.

Case in point — yesterday a Pakistani “quickie mart” owner was held up by a would-be robber.  (click Here for story)  When this store owner wielded a very large shotgun to protect himself and his property the thief dropped to his knees and explained that his family was at home starving and he needed the money for food.

Rather than call the police (which would have been in his rights) he chose to give the robber $40 and a loaf of bread.  I stood on the treadmill with tears streaming down my face as I watched this story, and all I could think was God is still in the business of making a way out of a hopeless situation.

I knew that God was still alive and on his throne and that simple act of mercy was proof that not only has God got it all worked out, but that he is not a respecter of persons.  What do I mean by that?  Regardless of our personal faith we tend to see the world through a lens that disallows to see God in people of other faiths.  The store owner is a Muslim and I know what I saw on the news this morning was a move of God.
