Windows 7

I am a techie. I love toys. While my budget didn’t allow me to purchase the new Macbook I wanted (the economy is bad if you haven’t noticed), I have been tweaking my laptop and PC to make my computer feel like Vista while not upgrading to a system that would make me cry tears of ME. So, imagine my tentative heart leap when I discovered MS would not leave its masses of PC users in Vista hell, but rather had been working diligently to replace that red-headed step-child of an operating system with something that actually works.
They could’ve come up with a better name, but hell all things considered, the only name that would fit at this point would be “It doesn’t suck 2010″ After all, those of us still holding on to our PC’s recognize not sucking is about as good as it gets. There nothing was wonderful about XP. The truth is, XP’s biggest selling point was that it was considerably more stable than ME and it didn’t suck. However, if I must remain a PC then at least I should not have to cringe, curse and cry over lost work, frozen programs, and critical errors.
I am sure Microsoft would love for us to quit dissing Vista, but I must admit I still have ME nightmares. The 5 trips the tech took to fix my PC (The last one on 9/11. I watched my computer die a slow death as the towers fell), the countless crashes I fixed myself and the jubilant cry of joy I gave as I rushed out to buy XP. It is for that reason when I tried vista and saw nothing was compatible with it and so many were complaining of dying PCs due to crashes after so many years with my stable friend XP I immediately knew no computer in my home would be upgraded. XP is the husband who treats you well but offers no excitement. Vista is the date who doesn’t know he’s not cool and is thereby the train wreck at that wastes his red wine in your lap. In my heart I knew it was cheaper to keep my “husband”.
I am sure vista is fine if all you are doing is typing a few e-mails or maybe making a pie chart in word or something, but if you need your computer stable for any real work then MS has taught us all to hold on with a death grip to their most stable product forcing it to die a slow obstinate death while we await a new OS that won’t make us stay up late nights crying over lost work.
Here’s hoping Windows 7 is that OS. I love the cool toys, bells and whistles on Vista but no amount of fun stuff can compensate for lost work and man hours.

Lil Lady has Vista on her laptop and it drives me nuts. I’m in the market for a laptop and haven’t gotten one yet because I don’t want to deal with Vista. I’ve got a feeling I’m going to consider a Mac.
Love to live; live to love!

I wish I had money for a Mac as well when I bought my last computer. Although I have never had any real problems with the Vista program that I use now, it can be a little annoying asking for permission to almost everything before it does it.

I switched. Last October. I’m still paying for my Mac but I am truly in love and don’t regret taking on the payment for it … My Dell laptop was great for five years but then it just got too darn old.
