Ohio 2006 Election

Posted by Ingrid on 7 November 2006

Though accused often times of free association with no clear tie in to my current surroundings I begin my first journey into the world of Blog with the current election. I have tried to be as well educated about my choices (as I’m sure many of you have) yet I still find that many people focus on the non issues that do nothing to really better the community or standard of living of those less fortunate around us.

Who really cares that John Kerry sucks at joke making? Let’s just be honest for a moment…is it really going to send us all to hell if that gay couple profess their love in a ceremony that the government recognizes as legal? Now I know I’m overstepping my expertise right now but go with me. Here I am a heterosexual woman with a child who is professed and vocally saved Bapticostal Christian (to be defined in a later edition). Yet, I can openly admit that it has no bearing on my salvation or the mental well being of my daughter if two gay people fall in love, get “committed”, live a life, raise a family, die and leave their money to each other. My personal and religious beliefs on my behavior should at no point infringe on their right to live life as they so choose. Since at last check I was not the creator of all heaven and earth and I have no dominion over hell how can I override God’s gift of free will to all? Logical huh?

Three times before 9 am I have heard people say they were voting against a candidate based on their views of how gay people live. (why is THAT relevant?) Whatever happened to voting for or against people based on their political views and how it affects us, our family, our financial stability and our standard of living. Or maybe that is some bizarre alter reality utopian dream I’ve been living alone in. Who knows, I just thought the purpose of electing elected officials really had nothing to do with who people sleep with or how they do “it” when they do.

Yet, the very same people “looking out for” our spiritual well being will condemn an issue which raises the minimum wage and places money aside for college grants and scholarships. How can you be that concerned about the children and the well being of the poor and disenfranchised if you oppose a bill that will raise the minimum wage to poverty level (yep, poverty level @ $6.85 per hour as opposed to below poverty level @ $5.15 per hour) and say my salvation is the reason I will not vote for that bill. Since when did Jesus or the bible say let the little people starve because the some people want to keep more of the profits. But I digress.

Now to those religious zealots who swear that gambling is the biggest sin Satan created I just have 3 phrases
Prayer Breakfast Door Prizes
Women’s/Men’s Day Raffles
BINGO
Hmmmmmm… So it’s okay to gamble as long as its under the auspices of the church? I say what ever happened to free will? Everyone is not saved. I wish they were but they are not. Even some people who are saved enjoy a game of chance from time to time. Don’t believe me? Travel down to Mountianeer in West Virginia and see how many of your church members are there dropping off money. But there are those who fully believe that the monies gained from a gambling bill is “dirty” and would rather not have it used to help send a needy child to College. Sorry but I can’t agree. I’m a realist and realistically college is expensive and those of us middle classers need all the help we can get.

Those are just a few of the issues on my mind today. They are all my opinion and I look forward to hearing your opinions. But whatever you do get out and vote. You can’t complain if you don’t use your voice!

Since the door has been opened to me without so much as a knock, I will enter in Faith. Ingrid, you are my girl!!!!!!!!!! My hero!!!!! Did you know that? The wind beneath my wings – Okay, gone too far on that one. Very poinant views on the election this year. I’m proud of you. Just so yo know, I went out to vote as soon as I got off work this morning. Figured out who I am yet? Either way, glad I did it. My great uncle was killed providing folks the means to get out to vote, my grandmother (God rest her soul) was committed to working those same polls in adulthood. You’re right, you can’t complain if you keep silent. A no vote is a yes vote. Anyone idiotic enough to leave their right to vote in the hands of the other man is a fool. I don’t trust anyone enough to let them vote on my behalf. Not even my Mom. Of course, she likes Ken Blackwell for Governor. Well see how much she appreciates him when her money starts looking funnier than it already does :-)
Okay, on my way in. Shall we make a date to continue this tomorrow? We’ll at least engage in some form of off the wall speech, that’s what we do!!!!!!!! Peace, Love & Hair Grease.

Girlie – you said a mouthful; not even jumping into my own personal views, it just boggles the mind the priority ranking that some folk have.
And speaking of voting and elections… where are all of those so called “religious leaders” who used their emotional church influence to get the black vote for Bush? Why arent they speaking up about this HUGE mess that he has made?

First off that was good, that was a very righteous in thought commentary, you hit on some very valid points and some very touchy topics that mush people don’t understand or care to view both sides. Second I don’t agree on raising the minimum wage I think that is what makes it hard to live in these times. Take out the mandatory wages and I believe the economy will grow like the grass on a baseball infield. Third, most politicians only talk about the things they fell we want to hear about the things that will raise the most controversy and divided the people so they are not able to focus on the real issues at hand, They also what to avoid any chance of them having to answer any real questions concerning the will of the people. politicians don’t create new ideas and new concepts, and this is for a number of reasons 1, they all are about money and power only 2, New ideas that help the people don’t make then more money and don’t maintain there power idealisms, 3, they are about staying in power because money and power is the ultimate goal of all politicians. You already know I don’t think that voting is as important as it was during the time we were not able to vote. The voting process has been taken out of the peoples hand ie.. Florida last year, plus if you ever noticed most states have gone to computer ballot machines, now the real question is who retrieves the data from the ballot machine. Democrats, republicans or that other guy
